Symptoms of Anorexia nervosa include a loss of at least 15% of body weight. There is an unreasonable fear of obesity and depression. A distorted body image is present. Loss of appetite, constipation and intolerance for the cold develop. The need to exercise to prevent weight gain may become obsessive. Women develop irregular or absent menstrual periods.
