Atopic dermatitis or eczema produces patches of dry, itchy and thickened skin. The areas that are commonly affected include regions where heat and moisture are retained, such as skin creases of elbows, knees, neck, face, hands, feet, groin, genitals and around the anus. At times, the itching can be very severe and interfere with sleep.
