Symptoms of ECTROPION

Symptoms of ectropion include eversion, or turning out, of the eyelid. This most commonly affects the lower eyelid. Inflammation occurs in the exposed area of the eyelid. This lead to pain, redness and swelling of the eyelid. The conjunctiva, or clear covering of the white part of the eye may become swollen and the white portion of the eye or sclera appears red, with prominent blood vessels. Mechanically, the lubrication system involving the tears does not work properly. The tears may pass onto the face, rather than down the nasolacrimal duct to the nose. This can lead to dry eye. It can lead to irritation or ulcers of the cornea. Chronic exposure or damage of the cornea can lead to loss of vision and blindness.
