Symptoms of PAGET'S DISEASE OF BONE

Initially, Paget's disease of bone leads to mild bone pain. Sometimes, early stages of this disorder do not have any symptoms. In later stages the affected bones are chronically painful (especially at night), enlarged or misshapen. The bones are tender and the skin over the abnormal bone is warm. Movements of the involved bones or joints is impaired. Involvement of the spine leads to spinal deformity. It may also produce symptoms of nerve root or spinal cord compression, such as weakness and numbness. Unexpected fractures in the involved bones occur from minor trauma and heal slowly, often with deformity.
